In many workplaces there are risks which may affect the health and safety of new and expectant mothers and their child. Working conditions normally considered acceptable may require adjustment during pregnancy and while breastfeeding The law requires employers to assess risks to new and expectant mothers in the workplace.
- An initial risk assessment will be undertaken by the member of staff and their line manager. The documentation for this risk assessment is available from HR.
- Depending on the outcome of the risk assessment, further advice may be required from an Occupational Health Advisor
- The assessment should be repeated when the member of staff returns to work following the birth
